TIP 1: CHOOSE THE RIGHT STRAND OR SPOOL LIGHT

Installing perimeter lighting can be tricky, but when done right, it’s a breeze. The first rule is to ensure you buy the correct cord, which is where most people go wrong. Going to a local hardware store to purchase pre-made C7 or C9 stringer sets is not the solution. Professional installers will always use either C7 or C9 bulk light line, purchased by the foot or in 500′ and 100′ spools. TIP 2: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT BULBS

Once you’ve decided on the type of cord you need, you’ll want to ensure you select the right bulbs. Here comes into play other factors. C7 and C9 LED lights have become a popular choice and are hot sellers. However, they do cost more than incandescent bulbs but are a great choice in terms of light quality, power savings, and longevity.

TIP 3: YOU'LL NEED THE RIGHT CLIPS

For your perimeter light line, the project is only as good as the light clips used. When you choose to go too cheap on light clips, you can easily ruin all your hard work. As a professional installer, you’ll want to ensure you have a clean, straight perimeter light line. A few things to keep in mind when it comes to light clips:

  • It is essential to only use commercial grade light clips
  • No matter how close the spacing is between sockets, you must use one light clip socket.
  • Take advantage of the variety of light clips. Use the right light clip for the type of structure you are attaching the empty strand light line to.
